Course Overview
This 40-hour course satisfies the POST mandate (Procedure D-13-6) for sworn law enforcement personnel to become certified Field Training Officers (FTOs).
This comprehensive course blends classroom instruction with hands-on practical application. Participants will be paired with a current police academy recruit during live scenario-based training exercises that simulate a full day on patrol.
Practical Application Component
Students will:

Conduct scenario-based training exercises

Provide structured performance feedback to trainees

Develop remediation plans when necessary

Complete an agency-specific Daily Observation Report (DOR)
This real-world training model allows participants to apply instructional techniques in a controlled learning environment while developing supervisory and evaluation skills critical to the FTO role.
